Biography



Monika was born in Budapest, Hungary. Her official music education started with the piano at age 9, however her interest in music showed much earlier. At the age of 17 she suddenly fell in love with the harp. After completing her middle-school studies, - where she also received a Child and Youth Supervisor qualification - she went on to study the harp at the Weiner Conservatory in Budapest. During her time there, she won 3rd prize at the 1st National Secondary School Harp Competition in Hungary (2003). The following year, Monika successfully auditioned to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (Austria) and to the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She studied for one year in Vienna and afterwards continued her studies in Budapest with Andrea Vigh. In 2009 Monika won an Erasmus scholarship for the 2009/2010 academic year to study with Jana Bouskova at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium). Monika completed her studies with outstanding distinction in 2010, receiving a Master of Music degree in Harp Performance and Teaching.

Monika has taken part in several international harp festivals and competitions - the 2nd Wales International Harp Festival and Competition in Caernarfon (2010), the 10th World Harp Congress in Amsterdam (2008), the 3rd International Harp Contest in Nice (2007), and the 1st International Harp Competition in Szeged (2007).
She has also had masterclasses and private lessons with many distinguished harpists: Gabriella Dall'Olio, Anneleen Lenaerts, Jana Bouskova, Isabelle Perrin, Ieuan Jones, Lavinia Meijer, Xavier de Maistre, Letizia Belmondo, Isabelle Moretti, Marielle Nordmann, Maria Graf, Anna Verkholantseva, and Ion Ivan Roncea.

Monika has performed in numerous recitals and concerts as soloist, chamber musician, and as orchestral member. She recently played at the National Gallery, London.
She also has extensive teaching experience. Monika was a harp teacher trainee at the Bartók Secondary School of Music Budapest for one academic year (2008-2009), and she was teaching the harp and the piano privately in London from 2010-2012.
Monika recently moved back to Budapest. She is preparing for some exciting recitals and concerts at the moment. Monika is also teaching the harp at the Sándor Frigyes Music School in Dunaújváros, Hungary.
